French Language Arts

In Français Intensif, we talked about where we went over the holiday and if we stayed in Calgary.  As well, we added in what we had done!
In Daily Five activities, the students are doing more writing.   This week, I chose activities for them to get us off to a good start; students participated in activities:  read to self, read to a friend, listen to reading, word work (making simple sentences) and writing (qui suis-je?/who am I?).
Grade 2 students are adding descriptive words to their writing as well as using phonetic spelling to write new words.  Grade 1 students are adding punctuation.

Mathematics

During Daily 3 - math alone, math with a friend, and talk about math, the students are learning to decompose higher numbers as well as writing using "je peux" statements about their math skills.  We are counting daily but with a twist:  Grade 1's are counting to 100 from various points on the hundred chart and Grade 2's are counting by 2's, 3's and 4's from any point on the number line!
As well, we worked as a group to create surveys such as:  what is your favourite number? what is your favourite dessert?  The students went to all other students to collect the answers; they uses tallies to record the results and then, added the numbers to make sure that they had talked to all the students.

Social Studies

We continue our study of Iqaluit.  Now, we are looking at artefacts from Nunavut.  We identified one as a fishing line.  We then wrote about it in our Visual Journals as a See, Think, Wonder activitiy.

PhysEd

The highlight of our PhysEd fun!  Sound Kreations!  The leader (Josh) is fun and the students enjoyed beginning to prepare the routine.  Here are some pictures:

Looking forward to another fantastic week!

Pj's, Nature Art and Games!

Remember:  Pyjama day next Friday, December 17, the last day of school before the winter vacation.

Literacy

The students continue with Daily 5.  In the above picture, students are playing a card game with the complex sounds.  They have all settled into the routine of reading, writing and working with words.

As well, we are learning a French song about winter that we will sing for the Winter Celebration!

PhysEd

In PhysEd this week, the students participated in Yoga practice.  As well, we got outside and played "Capture the Flag".

Mathematics

As well as continuing work with Base 10 blocks and games, the students learned 2 new games of strategy to play on Friday.  We had lots of fun with Outfoxed and Uno.

Nature Art

The students enjoyed participating in decorating "nature" even though we didn't get to go to the Coulee!

Thank you to the amazing volunteers who showed up to help out.  The students all participated in making some beautiful and interesting designs.

Looking forward to another wonderful week!  Remember PJ day again next Friday, December 17; we will have a school full of students in pyjamas.  Also, watch for our Winter Celebration video!
Bonne semaine,
