Language Arts

The students wrote and revised a story in their new writing notebooks. They were very motivated to do their best job to bring home for the Celebration of Learning.

We practised vocabulary related to talking about a pet - real or imagined with "De quel animal écris-tu?" and "Comment est ton animal?" during NLA daily.

As well, the Grade One's continued the letter study with the consonant "Nn".

Math

This week, the students began using a base ten mat and blocks. There was some pretty high level math skills being demonstrated by both the grades! Students have begun working in a rotation for Daily Three Math (3 au quotidien, en français). The work in the rotation consists of: working alone to practise skills, working with a friend (playing a game), writing about math (showing their thinking) and working with the teacher.

We finished a sorting activity, as well. The Grade One's sorted by one attribute and the Grade Two's sorted by two!

Science

In Science, we have begun to explore "hot and cold". We have graphed the temperatures in Calgary, Meteghan, Nova Scotia and Iqaluit, Nunavet. The students identified several things that are hot/cold and then, began a collage in their visual journals.

Social Studies

The students have discussed the idea of symbols and logos. First we talked about poppies and then the students viewed a slide show of logos for teams, games and stores. They copied their favourites into the visual journals. Then, they each created a logo for our class.
